Part 4 - Strategies 2
Do anything to avoid having him move you somewhere
In most attacks, an assailant will attempt to move a victim to a
quieter, more secluded area, where the real attack will begin. This
should be resisted by any means possible. It is vital to stay where
people can see you. Drop to the floor, if he tries to drag you away.
Never get into a vehicle with a stranger.
However, in situations where you are in a private place already, then
you need to go to where there are people. You may need to crawl out a
window and seek the neighbours. Try to avoid seeking higher ground, eg.
up through a building because this could lead to you becoming trapped.
Use strategies to distract him
There are various means you can employ to try to buy some time or
distract your attacker so that you may make an escape. For example:
• Ask him a question about something that may interest him eg. his
family
• Act insane
• Tell him that you have a sexual disease, such as syphilis, AIDS, etc.
• Distract him momentarily “Did you drop something over there?”
• Angrily berate him to make him feel ashamed
Pay close attention to him
Establishing eye contact with an assailant will enable you to a) learn
his intention and b) project your message to him (ie. “leave me alone”).
Furthermore, if you watch him carefully, you are more likely to get a
better description of him.
